Greg is the Firm’s Director of Indirect Tax. He advises clients and colleagues on a variety of VAT and Duty issues, either as part of regular audit work or from direct contact. Greg has set up and delivered internal and external training programmes covering a variety of VAT and Duty topics. Greg also has significant experience in international VAT and duty issues, having formed and chaired an International VAT Group for a Top 20 international network of accountants and business advisors.
Greg joined Burgess Hodgson in 2015 having worked for 16 years with a Top 30 accountancy firm as the Director of Indirect Tax Services. Prior to that he spent the previous 10 years working for H M Customs and Excise in the VAT discipline. This time was divided between assurance visiting which involved checks on businesses to ensure compliance with VAT legislation, investigation work dealing with non-compliant businesses, registration and de-registration of businesses, and debt recovery and insolvency work. Greg also represented Customs and Excise in tribunal and court proceedings. Prior to joining Customs and Excise Greg trained as a teacher.
Greg is a keen sportsman, having played rugby for Canterbury RFC where he is also a Level 1 qualified coach. He enjoys foreign travel and experiencing different languages, culture, food and drink.
