Training is one of the cornerstones of Burgess Hodgson: as a firm, you are only as good as the people you employ. We take training very seriously, and operate a proactive training programme, not only for our accountancy trainees but for all our tax, support, Chartered Secretaries and administration staff as well. We believe in developing our staff and promoting from within.

More than half of our 80 or so staff are currently actively involved in some form of training, whether that’s professional qualifications (ICAEW, for example) or more work-oriented skills training (touch-typing; short-hand; bookkeeping; payroll).

In the last two years, we have taken on six trainee Chartered Accountants at a time when the competition, and businesses in general, are cutting back their training programmes.

Trainees are encouraged to meet clients and gain exposure at an early stage of their training. Many choose Burgess Hodgson over larger, London companies because of this interaction: they are encouraged to get involved with clients and develop more responsibility earlier on in their training.

The firm is keen to continue to foster its links with local education providers and to attract new trainees that want to experience a broad portfolio of work.
