BH announces new Director, Indirect Tax Services

Posted: January 8, 2016

The Partners at Burgess Hodgson are delighted to announce that Greg Mayne (pictured left) has joined the firm as Director, Indirect Tax Services, and has become an associate.

Greg has over 15 years experience working within a top 30 accountancy practice, advising clients and colleagues on a wide range of VAT and Duty issues. Prior to that, Greg spent 10 years working for HM Customs and Excise in the VAT discipline.

Taxation is a major strength of Burgess Hodgson and the appointment of Greg comes just six months after Taxation Consultant David Marcussen joined the firm. Alongside Greg and David, the firm’s tax department now includes a Chartered Institute prize-winner, a fully trained Tax Inspector, and 15 Chartered Tax Advisers.

The addition of Greg to the tax team will enable Burgess Hodgson to develop its existing VAT and Duty Consultancy service for clients, and gives the firm a dedicated specialist adviser who can assist in more complicated or involved VAT enquiries.

“We are delighted that Greg has chosen to join our firm,” said Tax Partner Mike Horne. “He brings with him more than 25 years experience and knowledge that we are excited to be able to share with our clients.”

Greg, who lives in Canterbury with his family, said: “Having worked at the same firm for over 15 years I was looking for a new challenge. With Burgess Hodgson’s tax department continuing to grow both in size and reputation, it felt like an ideal opportunity to work with an expanding firm.

“I see my role as two-fold”, explains Greg; “not only will I be providing a VAT service to all of Burgess Hodgson’s existing clients, but I will also be developing the service and looking for new opportunities outside of their existing client database.”

Commenting on the appointment, Steve Sutton, Senior Partner at Burgess Hodgson, says: “In the last five years, and against the backdrop of a challenging economic climate, Burgess Hodgson has continued to drive its reputation in providing innovative tax services and advice. With the addition of Greg Mayne as Director, Indirect Tax, we are looking forward to further building that reputation for providing cost-effective, intelligent business solutions and high quality tax expertise.”
