Burgess Hodgson is warning companies to be vigilant about a new scam where the perpetrators are claiming to be from Companies House.
Several newly incorporated companies have received a letter from the “Register of Companies & Businesses” which requests that the company pay £190 so that they are included in the Register.
However, as BH warns, this organisation has nothing to do with Companies House whatsoever, nor is it necessary for a company to sign up to this ‘Register’.
“New companies are bound to receive lots of junk mail from companies and organisations who are trying to sell them services,” says Sue Leadbeater, who heads up Burgess Hodgson’s Company Secretarial department.
“New companies need to be aware of potential scams, such as this one, and them to bring any such correspondence to our attention…before they make any payments!”
