Trainee Company Secretary

Job Description: 

We are a Canterbury based, 18 partner firm seeking a Trainee Company Secretary to join our Statutory Department.

The department is a busy part of the firm that provides first class company secretarial services to a large number of its corporate clients and LLPs.

The Role:

The role includes the opportunity to train towards the Chartered Secretaries Qualifying Scheme (CSQS). CSQS is a professional qualification which provides a broad skills base in law, finance and strategy, with a focus on governance, corporate law and compliance. Alongside the formal qualification you will also be gaining work experience at Burgess Hodgson.

Upon completion of all CSQS modules and fulfilment of the work experience requirement you will be eligible to apply for full Chartered status of ICSA (The Governance Institute).

Working in our dedicated team, you will help provide a broad range of Compliance duties including but not limited to:

  • Maintaining statutory records.
  • Preparation and submission to Companies House of Confirmation Statements and other forms.
  • Arranging formation of companies and LLPs
  • Preparation of minutes.
  • Undertaking Companies House and other searches.

The Candidate:

The successful candidate should have the following:

  • A good academic background
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Outstanding organisational skills
  • Able to work to tight deadlines and manage several projects at any one time
  • be able to use their initiative and provide solutions
  • be flexible and have a diplomatic approach

Administration Assistant

Salary: TBC

Job Description: 

We are currently recruiting for a Temporary Administration Assistant (initially for 8 weeks, potentially leading to a permanent role) to join our busy office in Canterbury.

This full-time position is 9am – 6pm (Mon to Fri), with a one-hour lunch break.

Duties include:

  • Collecting files from around our busy office, and filing
  • Entering data on to spreadsheets
  • Answering the telephone
  • Tea and coffee making
  • Opening the post
  • Entering and franking the out-going post
  • Scanning
  • Occasional reception cover
  • Occasional driving duties


Applicants must have GCSE / Scottish or equivalent qualifications and must hold a full clean driving licence (own car is not essential). Basic understanding of Microsoft office software is required, i.e. Outlook, Excel, Word.
