Charity Update a Success
On Wednesday 2nd November we held a charity and not for profit update seminar at the Cathedral Lodge in collaboration with Furley Page Solicitors along with guest speaker Simon Dolby from the KM Charity team.
This is the first time that we have hosted such an event and we were thrilled with the large turnout of representatives from charities across Kent both large and small and the positive feedback received. The speakers covered a wide range of topics relevant to charities in the current environme
nt with a focus on ensuring Trustees are able to maintain and improve public confidence in the sector, particularly given the Charity Commissions recent research which suggests, rightly or wrongly, that confidence in charities is at an all-time low.
Our own charity specialist, Associate Jim Leeves, discussed the latest tax, financial reporting and governance areas affecting the not for profit sector. Aaron Spencer, Partner at Furley Page, discussed the current political and legal landscapes for the sector, and also looked at the advantages of company or CIO structures.
Amanda Okill, Senior Associate and employment specialist at Furley Page gave an eye-opening discussion on the ever growing issue of cybercrime and how it is affecting the sector. To finish we were treated to an emotive and thought-provoking talk from Simon Dolby of the KM Charity team on how effective fundraising and promotion and how storytelling is a key part to effectively promoting your charities activities and successes.
