The weather gods were out in force to ensure that the sun shone on Chestfield Golf Club for this year’s annual Burgess Hodgson Golf Day.
There were nine teams in total, each ably led by Burgess Hodgson partner and staff: Andrew Miles, Colin Reid, Kenton May, Simon Bailey, Mike Horne, Matt Lightfoot, Dale King, Mark Pearce and Matthew Sutton. The format of the day was Texas Scramble, a golf competition that offers a combination of strategy, camaraderie, skill, and heartbreak – which was very much evident on the day!
With some quality players in its line-up, Matt Lightfoot’s team were the hot favourites to win this year’s title. However, with every team stepping up to the mark, the final results couldn’t have been much closer, the top three teams being separated by only 0.1 points!
Both Colin Reid and Mark Pearce’s team finished in joint first with a score of 55.7 after handicaps had been taken into consideration. To determine the winner it had to come down to which team scored the highest on the back nine holes. And so it was that Mark Pearce’s team clinched a hard-fought and extremely close win!
An afternoon of golf in the sunshine was followed by a three-course meal, where the prizes were awarded. A raffle, with some great prizes such as a £100 voucher for Deeson’s restaurant, raised £575 for the Chestfield Golf Club’s Captain’s charity, Myeloma UK.
